About Mark McGee, LMHC:
I’m passionate about what I do:
I understand that therapy is an investment of money, time, and emotional energy so I work hard to be much more than just a friendly ear. I want people to feel like they deserve to feel better and that they are capable of feeling better.
Feeling burned out, tied up in knots, or spread too thin is a normal experience, but that doesn’t mean we should just accept this as our fate. Being kind to ourselves means believing that we are worth the work.
How I work:
It is my goal with every client to meet them where they are on their journey, whether it’s someone who has been a lifelong work in progress or whether it’s someone who is just developing an interest in getting to know themselves better.
I come equipped with an eclectic set of tools, based in science. I am less concerned with adhering to a particular model or theory of treatment and am more concerned with ensuring that clients feel heard and validated.
I’m an advocate:
I believe that the stigma and shame surrounding mental health is a toxic trait of our American culture, and am glad to be part of the movement to push back against it.
I believe that to various degrees, we are all wounded through the process of growing up, whether it be through challenging family relationships, bullying, failures, romances gone bad, and most of all, traumatizing experiences such as abuse and sexual assault.
I believe that children deserve safe adults to advocate for them and to help them navigate the large, complicated, and sometimes scary world. I believe that this is essential to have the world be less full of wounded adults.
I hurt for those who feel marginalized and wish for everyone to feel safe being their authentic self.
